It's So Worth It!

>> Saturday, April 18, 2009

If one more person says this to me, there will be some kung fu fighting going on. And I'll win. Trust me. What's so worthy about someone being dependent on you 24/7, depriving you of sleep, cries until your ears bleed and is slowly draining your bank account? AND that's not all! "Bob tell her what else she's won!... Well, in addition to the glorious prizes mentioned before, you also win a LIFETIME of worry and guilt! Welcome to motherhood!!" Woo hoo!!

I think this phrase is the single most overused and worst comment to make to a new parent. Especially one who is having a hard time adjusting and struggling to cope. I don't think anyone knows what else to say when someone is honest about how hard of a time they are having. Your support disappears! The topic is avoided and no one understands (unless you've been there yourself). It's expected that you instantly bond with your child and you should be soooo happy that you are now shouldering the awesome burden/responsibility of raising a person.

Sorry! But I don't feel that way! I've been struggling to deal with my feelings and emotions - where most everyone says 'Oh, it's just your hormones' instead of just really listening and noticing the signs and symptoms of PPD. After my husband mentioned it, I finally went to see the doctor and hopefully I'll be feeling some relief in the coming weeks.

Came across yoir blog via another blog....
So sorry to hear you are having a tough time..hopefully, with help you can adjust and begin to feel less weighed down.
I currently have an 8mt old who REFUSES to sleep thru the night and it is beginning to DRAIN me..it is not humanly possible to do this marathon nursing at night that she would like to do...
Well...I will be praying for a speedy solution to both our problems:)
